These past several months we have had some concerning health news about my dear sweet husband. It is news that will effect us the rest of our lives... he has been diagnosed with
Alpha 1 Antitrypsin Deficiency. It is a condition in which the body does not make enough of a protein that protects the lungs and liver from damage. The condition can lead to emphysema and liver disease. Since it is a genetic disease that his Aunt now has been diagnosed with, there is a very good chance that his Mom who was diagnosed in the 70s as emphysema, also had this. Ken's mom passed away when he was only 7 years old. We have had our kids tested and anxiously awaiting the results.
Today we start the infusion treatments every week for the rest of his life to help cushion the rapid decline that has started happening. Normal people breathe around 80-100%. He currently is at 71%. His aunt is now at 11% and on oxygen in her 60's.
I have tried to push this news aside... tried to ignore it hoping it will go away. I have prayed and prayed some more... I have cried... I have screamed in my mind WHY... WHY HIM?!!!" And now, today is the day that we start fighting this disease for the rest of our lives.
I have struggled on and off about sharing this news....
I believe in the awesome power of prayer and would greatly appreciate your prayers, dear sweet friends.

Sheila, My thoughts and prayers are with you- I'm sure you're going through many different emotions looking for things to be "normal". I hope that knowing that you have lots of blog friends that are thinking of you and your family will ease your mind just a bit. Hugs, Beth
you can count on my prayers...
How odd that I stumble across your blog on the same day I'm asking for prayer on mine. Serious illness, in someone so dear to you, is the scariest thing in the world. I hope all of our prayers give you the comfort and strength that you need to make it through.
So sorry about your news remember that each hand that touches your husband is a healing hand and we will uplift you continually. This is so hard to accept isn't it.I have also had some new about my husbands health this week that has left me panicked and afraid, so know that you are not alone ever.
I'm so sorry to hear this news. You've already taken the first step--accepance. You will be surprised at how well you and your family copes with this, though it won't always be easy.
Sending prayers for you and your family.
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
I pray that you have physical support from those around you. The toughest thing about about dealing with all of the extremely difficult things in our lives the past year has been the lack of physical support from anyone outside our family. I hope that you have some good support!
Sheila,
I was out of town and I am catching up on my blog reading - I am sorry to hear that you and your family are going though this right now. It will be be journey that you will go through together, but with your love for each other, I know it will be something that you all will be able to come through with strength, courage and support that you all have for each other. You will all be in my thoughts.
xo,
Sarah

Sheila, I'm so sorry to hear this. You and your family are in my heart and in my prayers. If you need someone to cry with you, I am very good at that- don't hesitate to call. Love always,
Lillian
Hugs to you all for this very hard news.
I will be praying for your family. I am so sorry to hear.
I'm keeping you and your husband in my prayers. I just found your blog while I was surfing Brown eyed girls blog. It's so scary when a husband has a health scare. We hurt right along with them. I hope the treatments are working and your kids are ok too.
God bless you.
You have our prayers- and so wonderful that one of his blessings was bestowed upon him when he married YOU Sheila. Call upon your inner strength, and call upon friends and family whenever you need ours.
Sheila, praying for your husbands health, and for both of you to have the strength and continued blessings of your family and friends support.
