The Simple Things

March 12, 2009

Through my journey, I have learned to enjoy the simple things: beautiful ribbons, tattered lace, broken pocket watches, crochet doilies and the list goes on. It is those castaway items that I so love to remake into something meaningful to me. As I was preparing for Silver Bella and Charlotte Lyons class, she had her Prada Schmada bag pictured with a strawberry. Oh, how I looked for a beautiful strawberry to pluck from an antique mall, but sadly none were to be found. I asked my mom if she could "cobble" one up with no pattern. A week or so later, she presented me not with one strawberry but a bag full. She used old cutter quilts and remnants to make each precious strawberry. I just love their texture and colors. Now one adorns my Prada Schmada bag, but the other I've put in a bowl and set out to display these simple strawberries that make me smile. Each time I look at them, I am reminded of my Mom and Silver Bella. Thank you mom for making these for me!
