Photoshop Friday - Softening the Look of Digital Papers

December 6, 2013

Thank you for joining me for another Photoshop Friday.  Today we are going use the Filter Bur function to soften the look of pattern papers.

There are sometimes, that I like to soften the look of papers so that the focus is really on the photo(s) themselves.  I used one of the gorgeous Santa papers from Crafty Secrets - Creating with Vintage Christmas CD.

Create a new artwork file by selecting File>New>Blank File. Then drag the paper to be used to the new artwork file.

Make sure that the pattern paper layer is highlighted then select the Filter>Blur>Gaussian Blur.

Then you can use the slider bar to play with the radius watching the preview box to achieve the desired look.  The click OK to apply it to the pattern paper.

If you are not happy with the result, you can click the Undo button at the bottom.  Next, continue to add more pattern paper, embellishments, your photos and journaling to personalize.

Thanks Sheila for showing another great trick. I had no idea how to do this and you make it look so simple - I know I can follow your instructions!

Sheila, you are such a smartie pants! I love these tutorials. Even though I don't have PhotoShop (I have PaintShop Pro) I glean a little more understanding of how the whole digital thing works each time I visit your lovely blog. Beautiful layout, too!
