Layering Digital Images Tutorial

May 31, 2013

On my Plant Dreams layout I used the New Crafty Secrets Flower Garden Digital Stamp images and changed their colors.  But I also took it one step further and layered the large blue and white butterfly to add dimension.

You can find my recent tutorial on how to change the color of digital images here.

Did you know that you can and dimension to your images by layering different color images to achieve dimension like the blue and white butterfly above?  I am no expert but, I hope that these easy steps will help you start creating wonderful digital artwork.  I am using Photo Shop Elements 11.

By changing the color of the .png file above you have now made your black stamped image any color that you like.

Once the color is what you like drag and drop into your artwork and re-size as needed.

Now repeat steps 1-4 to create another color image of your choice.  Drag and drop the new color stamp into your artwork.

Once the images are positioned the way you want, make sure that the images are in the layer pallet one on top of the other.  If they aren't just click the layer in the layer pallet and drag and drop.

Then right click over the layers pallet and choose merge down.

This allows you to now move the image around together.  Remember if you don't like how it looks the undo button below is your friend.

You can use the same merge down technique for photos and frames too.  Just by position the photo in the layer above the frame and then merge down.  This will allow the photo and frame to move as one.

I hope that you enjoyed this tutorial.  If you have any questions, please leave a comment or email me.

Monday, I will be joining the other creative Crafty Secrets Design Team for the June Linky Party and DT Challenge.  I hope you join us!
