A Year + in the Making

January 5, 2011

There are some projects that I start and I know that I will love, but they just take a while. This is one of them… It is Pam Garrison’s class from Silver Bella 2009. Yes, I said 2009! I have been working on it on and off for more than a year. The stitching took most of the time. Each wool piece is hand stitched and embellished, but that wasn’t why it wasn’t completed it just didn’t have enough dimension for my taste. If you know me I am all about adding dimension and I just wasn’t getting it with just the wool fabric and vintage lace trims, so I added some greenery and rusty snowflakes. I just love how it turned out, but I just completed yesterday, yes after all my Christmas decorations have been packed away. So I am hanging it up in my house for a little bit longer to enjoy it. Yes, my kiddos and DH think I have gone crazy, but I am so enjoying it! I hope that I am not the only one that does this…

Sheila your wreath is absolutely stunning. I can see all the work that you have put into making this piece of art. I believe you should keep it up all winter and enjoy fully. Stunning...

I do stuff like that all the time- knitting wool scarves in the summer, Halloween decorations in Feb- when the inspiration to finish something hits me- I just go with because I have a LOT of unfinished projects.

BTW- the wreath is beautiful.

Sheila,
I do this ALL the time. Start something, set it aside when muse is suddenly silent, move to something else, when muse returns I embrace it and enjoy! I've heard "enjoy the process" so many times but it's really true!

And I'd keep that wreath up year round; it doesn't scream Christmas to me but quietly speaks JOY!

Thanks for sharing,

Donna
