Crafty Secrets Design Team Challenge (Sewing Challenge)

October 18, 2010

I was so excited to be able to join in with the talented Crafty Secrets' Design Team Members today for a Sewing Challenge. I just love texture and look of sewing on paper. Actually if my sewing machine could talk, it would say that it sews on paper much more than it ever sews on fabric. If you are a little intimidated by sewing on paper, don't be. It as easy as sewing on fabric, just not as forgiving. Once the needle goes through the paper it has a hole forever. A good rule is to always check to make sure it is sewing correctly by doing some test stitching on a similiar weight paper before doing it on your artwork. Once it is working correctly the fun begins... just start sewing. Start with a basic straight stitch and go from there. For this project I traced and sewed around the the collage side of the Crafty Secrets Christmas Creative Scraps. I then adhered it to one of the Sweet Chips Chipboard Album pieces.
I added Glimmer Mist and Distressed Stickles to one of the frames from the Sweet Chips Chipboard Album and Frames to highlight one of the images from the Christmas Creative Scraps.
I hope you try sewing on your next paper project. I am sure you will be delighted with the results.

I love all the details and fun pieces you put together. Sewing on paper is lots of fun. However the needle must be changed more often as it gets dull from the pulp of the paper...like having scissors for fabric separate from paper scissors. Lovely piece of art...
