The Weeds Have Won

September 9, 2009

This past weekend we did a major overhaul on our yard and landscaping that had gotten out of control. With our busy family schedules of work, school and sports there are some times when we just don't have enough time to keep it up with our yard like we want to. My DH and I were discussing pull out these weeds...

They are popping up everywhere... in our honeysuckle and in our trellis work on our front deck....

and in our landscaping...
I think they are beautiful flowers (I think they are Morning Glories) and we should keep them right where they are... on the other hand they seem to be taking over everything. But I just love seeing their bright shiny blooms in the morning, greeting me as I go to work.
For now I have won the battle and the "weeds" are still in their place.

You were right, these flowers are called morning glories and they are actually a trailing vine plant. I have many of them right now and yes, they will take over if not kept in check. The good thing however is that the first frost of late fall and winter will kill them off completely making it much easier to pull them up. So if you wanted to wait you do have some time. However, I would not let them go to seed as they will pop up everywhere in the spring if you let that happen. They are pretty though! :)

I have the morning glories in my yard too. At the end of the summer,
is when they start to come out.
They seem to be attatching themselves everywhere. But, they
do die off, once fall hits.
At least they are pretty flowers.
BTW I found your blog from
