Beaded Bunny Tutorial

March 25, 2009

Recently, while antiquing I found a vintage bunny metal cookie cutter that I just had to do something with... A few minutes later it is now one of my favorite Easter/Spring Decorations. I thought I would share with all my friends how easy this is to put together. Supplies Needed:
  • Metal Cookie Cutter
  • Diamond Glass/Crystal Lacquer
  • Vintage Pearls or Beads (or new - I just love the look of the old ones)
  • Velvet Ribbon
  • Van Dyke Brown Ink Pad
  • Assorted Stamps
  • Needle & Thread
  • E6000 Glue

I used approximately 22" of pink velvet ribbon to make mine. (Thank you Stephenie for gifting me with the gorgeous ribbon!) I know most of you are gasping and wondering how I could grunge that beautiful ribbon up... So if you aren't into this step just skip right on over it. I used my favorite brown ink - Van Dyke Brown Ink pad to stamp directly onto the ribbon. Use an ink up pad (small sponge will work well too) and grunge up the ribbon.

Fold the fabric in half and do a quick gathering stitch to secure the ribbon.

Then insert the ribbon through the handle in the metal cookie cutter and add E6000 to secure ribbon to metal cookie cutter. Working in small areas in the cookie cutter add the Diamond Glaze/Crystal Lacquer and start placing your pearls and beads. Making sure each is coated to secure to the cookie cutter.

Continue adding until you fill the cookie cutter. Note that until the Diamond Glaze/Crystal Lacquer is dried you can move beads around to make it pleasing to the eye.

Once completed make sure to let it completely dry before trying to hanging it up.

I can't wait to find other metal cookie cutters to do some more. Wouldn't this technique be fun to make Christmas Cookie Ornaments? Adding vintage red and green beads to Christmas themed cookie cutters and then beautiful ribbon. Great craft with the kiddos too.
