An Angel

May 13, 2008

A little over a month ago, I found Alice W. and her blog Romantic Thoughts. Her blog drew me in with her beautiful pictures, her gentle soul , heartfelt words and faith centered heart. It is a breathe of fresh air. As I listened to her music choices and read through her blog, she seemed to talk to my soul. Then one day one of her posts brought me to tears... it was a post where she had found beautiful treasures at a sale and one of those was a small plastic cupie looking doll with crocheted dress. It brought tears to my eyes as I was reminded of my dear, loving grandma that God had called home over 10 years ago. She had one of these dolls in her basket of crafts just waiting for her to finish a dress. From an early age, Grandma taught us how to crochet. Unfortunately, Grandma didn't finish the dress before she died and it wasn't something that we kept. I didn't know then what I know now. That day, I decided to leave short comment on Alice's blog. Shortly thereafter, she emailed me making my unusually stressful day lighten just by a kind word. Yesterday, I received a package in the mail. It was from Alice. Tears started rolling down again, what did I do to deserve this random act of kindness? I sat relishing in all the amazing beautifully wrapped packages and just soaking in the kindness that emulated from this small box. As I read her beautiful card, and then opened each package I felt the love that she poured into this package. As I unwrapped the cupie doll with the crocheted dress, it reminded me that God does work miracles through angels here on earth. I soaked in all the lovely goodies Alice included. I read through the vintage hymns she included, and then discovered wrapped inside the music was a recipe for lemons bars, almost identical to the one that my mom makes. And then there was a few pages torn out from a children's story and it was about twins. How could Alice know that I was a twin or that one my favorite deserts that my mom makes are her lemon bars? I truly believe that God does work miracles through angels on earth. Alice is God's angel. Alice thank you from the bottom of my heart for the cupie doll and goodies. She now graces my step back hutch with a picture of grandma. Every time I look at her I am reminded of your loving gesture and random act of kindness that you bestowed on me. I pray that God blesses you and your family.

Sheila! Your sweet post just brought tears to my eyes!!! Thank you so much for saying such kind words! It was a blessing for me to be able to do something, even as small as sending a little package of preloved treasures, to someone so welcoming and kindhearted. God does perform miracles everyday...and I am so glad we both were able to be a part of this one!!!

It is truly a small world. I read about this in Artful Blogging (or was it Somerset Life). I was really touched by the story, and the random act of kindness, and look! Now we are partners for a swap.
I'm browsing around your blog getting ideas for the swap. :)
